Ana Eguiarte is the Binational Liaison at the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve (TRNERR), where she bridges communities and organizations across the U.S.–Mexico border to protect and restore the Tijuana River Watershed.
Since 2008, Ana has led collaborative projects in waste management, green infrastructure, community stewardship, policy development, regulatory updates, environmental education, and other sustainability initiatives. Her work emphasizes building partnerships and facilitating cross-border dialogue. She engages stakeholders across government, NGOs, the private sector, academia, and local communities. Prior to joining TRNERR, Ana spent six years with the Secretariat of Environmental Protection of Baja California, gaining extensive experience in environmental planning and management.
Ana holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography with a specialization in Environmental Planning from the University of Guadalajara and a Master’s in Integrated Environmental Management from El Colegio de la Frontera Norte.
Ana is motivated by the opportunity to create cross-border environmental solutions that benefit both the watershed and the communities that call it home. Years before joining the Reserve, she often walked its trails, imagining how wonderful it would be to work in this magical place while contributing to projects for both Mexico and the U.S.—a dream that came true. As a fronteriza by adoption, she brings a personal understanding of the region’s unique challenges and opportunities, leveraging binational collaboration and cross-cultural partnerships to develop innovative, region-specific solutions.
