Restoration Coordinator Job Announcement

The Tijuana Estuary Foundation, the nonprofit partner supporting the operation of the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve (TRNERR), seeks an enthusiastic and skilled Restoration Coordinator to advance the Reserve’s habitat restoration, science, and coastal resilience initiatives. The Restoration Coordinator will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of large-scale restoration projects at TRNERR, including a major tidal marsh restoration, while contributing to the Reserve’s restoration science program and long-term adaptive management.

Border Field State Park Resilience, Access, and Habitat Restoration Project

Status

SCH # 2025040060 - On March 10, 2025, California State Parks issued a Notice of Determination for the Final Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the Border Field Resilience Access and Habitat Restoration Project. California State Parks is the lead agency for the preparation and approval of the Environmental Impact Report in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act.

Description

The project proposes to improve access to Border Field State Park by addressing regular flooding along the entrance road (Monument Road). Nelson Sloan Quarry Restoration and Beneficial Reuse of Sediment Project

Status

SCH # 2019049100 - On July 6, 2023, California State Parks issued a Notice of Determination (NOD) to certify the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) for the Nelson Sloan Quarry Restoration and Beneficial Reuse of Sediment Project. The NOD and the FEIR were published on the State Clearinghouse on July 6, 2023.

Description

The Project consists of the beneficial reuse of excess sediment excavated from flood control facilities and disturbed habitats in the Tijuana River Valley towards the reclamation of previously quarried slopes and restoration of the Nelson Sloan Quarry site to close to historic (i.e., pre-quarry operations) topography and habitat. Tijuana Estuary Tidal Restoration Program (TETRP) II Phase I

Status

SCH # 2021050599 - The USFWS has issued the Record of Decision for the TETRP II Phase I project, stating that Alternative 2 has been selected for implementation. Both the Record of Decision and the Final EIS/EIR are available. California State Parks has issued a Notice of Determination; it was published on the State Clearinghouse on March 24, 2023. A Notice of Availability of the Final EIR/EIS was published in the Federal Register on March 31, 2023.  Under Alternative 2, approximately 68 acres of coastal wetlands and 15 acres of native transitional and upland habitat would be restored within the Tijuana Estuary.

Description

TETRP II Phase I would restore between 82 to 87 acres of coastal wetlands and associated native upland habitats within the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve on portions of both Border Field State Park and the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge.
