Stewardship volunteers perform a variety of duties, depending on their schedules and interests. Duties can include removing invasive species, planting native species, collecting seeds, repairing disturbed natural areas, educating the public about the restoration process, propagating plants, removing brush, trimming overgrown vegetation, replacing signs, repairing broken fencing and handrails, and helping to maintain the nursery facility.

Volunteers meet at 9:00 a.m. in front of the Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center garage, located on the gravel driveway south from the parking lot.
Join The Nat, San Diego Bird Alliance, San Diego National Wildlife Refuge Complex, and the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve for a Border BioBlitz at Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the trails with experts while observing wildlife using the iNaturalist application. No experience necessary, just bring a smartphone and your curiosity!
Spanish speakers will be available, and there will be two routes for folks with different mobility needs.
Meeting location: trailhead on 5th street & Iris Avenue.

The Advisory Council is the multi-agency body that coordinates policy and operations throughout the Reserve. Through voluntary participation in the Advisory Council, member agencies consent to establish policies, jointly promote Reserve programs, and cooperate to provide resources to accomplish the missions of the Reserve and the constituent land management agencies. Advisory Council meetings are open to the public.

Celebrate Amphibian Week at the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve with the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Friends of San Diego Wildlife Refuges. Everyone is invited to explore the fascinating world of frogs, toads, and salamanders through hands-on activities and nature experiences.
Enjoy a Baja California treefrog hike, see live amphibians up close, play amphibian games, and take part in a creative frog art project. Activity books and coloring pages will be available for children and curious adults alike.
This free, all-ages event offers a fun way to connect with nature and learn about the amphibious residents of Southern California. Bring your family and join us in celebrating Amphibian Week.

Join our friends from the Living Coast Discovery Center for one of their "Trail to Bay" guided hikes.
This hike will celebrate World Migratory Bird Day by using binoculars to search for native bird species. This event will also support the 2025 Border BioBlitz, a community science effort to record as many species as possible along the U.S.-Mexico border.
